Domaine Eugène Meyer, Alsace Riesling Spiegel grand cru 2021

Perfumed and elegant with pronounced notes of grapefruit, orange blossom and quince. The cool, intense palate is full of juicy green lime and honey with a long, racy finish. This rare and beautiful wine makes a very special match for the most delicate of fish or egg dishes and is an equally attractive partner for fuller flavours such as roast chicken or the local choucroute with pork or veal.

Alsace Grand Cru is the appellation for the finest wines from the Alsace region of north-east France. Created in 1983, the appellation was based on a classification of the region's vineyards carried out in 1975 and has been the subject of multiple revisions since.

The vineyards included in the Grand Cru often have a reputation centuries old, which in combination with the best grape varieties, limited yields and rigorous quality control give rise to wines of special distinction that truly express their origins.

The south-east facing slopes of the Spiegel Grand Cru offer stony clay, richly mineral soils that retain moisture well. The name Spiegel, German for mirror, alludes to the site's ability to catch the rising sun and reflect its light across the vines throughout the day.

Spiegel wines have a particular balance of airy, elegant finesse with the body and power given by the clay elements in the soil. They are rich, aromatic, distinctive and luxurious wines.
